Preparation

Proper surface preparation ensures optimal adhesion and long-lasting protection. Before applying Rust-Oleum CombiColor Original, make sure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Follow these steps for best results:

  • Clean the surface: Remove oil, grease, and other contaminants using alkaline cleaning or high-pressure (steam) cleaning with appropriate detergents.
  • Remove loose material: Scrape or wire brush away rust scale, loose mill scale, loose rust, and flaking coatings to St 3 standard (ISO 8501-1:1988).
  • Smooth intact coatings: Lightly sand existing coatings to roughen the surface and promote adhesion.
  • Blast or sand: Where necessary, use light blast cleaning or sanding to prepare metal surfaces.
  • Ensure dryness: Make sure the surface is completely dry during application.
  • Special surfaces: Galvanised, zinc, and aluminium surfaces must be primed first with CombiColor Adhesion Primer 3302.

Following these steps will help you achieve a smooth, durable finish that protects your metal surfaces effectively.

Application

For optimal results, always ensure the coating is well-stirred and applied under suitable environmental conditions. Ideal application occurs when air, substrate, and coating temperatures are between 5°C and 35°C, relative humidity is below 85%, and the substrate is at least 3°C above the dew point.
