Preparation

For best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, dry. It is particularly important that new surfaces are completely dry before you start painting.

  • Remove all loose and defective paint. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
  • Where necessary, wash the surface, rinse with clean water and allow to dry.
  • Seal surfaces that remain powdery after thorough preparation with an appropriate plaster sealer.
  • Where necessary, rub down and then wipe off with a damp, lint free cloth to avoid dust.
  • Fill any gaps with an appropriate filler such as Polycell Trade Polyfilla.

For detailed preparation and application recommendations, please refer to the product Technical Datasheet before application.

Application

Always test a small area of the surface to be painted to ensure you are happy with the finished results.

  • Ensure the paint is thoroughly stirred prior to application.
  • On new or bare surfaces, apply a sealing coat thinned with up to 1 part clean water to 5 parts paint.
  • Apply by brush, roller or airless spray. For most projects, apply 2 full coats for a durable, even finish, although additional coats may be needed when covering strong colour changes.
  • For the best results, avoid application in temperatures below 8°C and maintain a wet edge by cutting in and rolling each wall immediately to minimise picture framing or patchy finishes.
  • Thining:

    • For standard application, the paint can be thinned with up to 1 part clean water to 10 parts paint if required.
    • For airless spraying, thin with up to 1 part clean water to 5 parts paint and use a 515 low-pressure spray tip at 1300–1700 psi (89–117 bar), or a standard 515 tip at 2000–2400 psi (138–165 bar).

Always follow manufacturer's instructions found on the packaging. Find all information on the technical datasheet.

Note: If using more than one tin of the same colour, intermix prior to use to ensure colour consistency. Check tinted product before application to avoid colour differences.
