Overview

HB42 PS3 Oil Based Primer is an interior and exterior primer-sealer, stain sealer and bonding coat, dry for over-coating in as little as 1 hour. On interior surfaces, it dries quickly while offering excellent hiding power, outstanding stain-killing performance and strong adhesion-promoting properties. Stains of all kinds are permanently sealed in, leaving topcoats blemish free - HB42 PS3 is especially effective against stubborn nicotine and water stains.

New wood trim can be primed, sanded and top-coated on the same day, saving both time and money on site. On exterior surfaces, PS3's unique formulation delivers full penetration and flexibility across all surfaces, including dimensionally unstable panels and trims where many oil-based primers struggle. It resists cracking and peeling, and is compatible with most decorative top coats.

Preparation

• Ensure the surface is stable, firm and completely dry.
• Remove all dust, sand, loose old paint, dirt, grease and oil before application.
• Lightly sand glossy or previously coated surfaces to help promote adhesion.
• Stir thoroughly before use - if tinting, mix to the required shade before application.

Application

• Apply by brush, roller or spray in a smooth, even coat.
• Allow to dry to touch for 1–2 hours.
• Leave for 2–4 hours before over-coating with your chosen topcoat.
• On new wood trim, sand lightly after drying and topcoat the same day if required.
• Thin with white spirit only if needed for spray application or difficult surfaces.

Tip: For same-day trim work, prime early in the day to allow the full 2–4 hour over-coating window before applying your topcoat.

Aftercare & Storage

• Allow the full recommended over-coating time before applying a topcoat, even though the surface may be dry to touch sooner.
• Once cured, HB42 PS3 provides a stable, sealed base with strong resistance to cracking and peeling, particularly on exterior trims and panels.
• Ensure good ventilation during application and drying, as with all oil-based products.
• On stained surfaces, check that the stain has not bled through after full cure before proceeding with the final topcoat.

Clean Up

• Clean brushes, rollers and spray equipment with white spirit immediately after use.
• Wipe away wet spills or splashes promptly with a white spirit-dampened cloth.
• Once dry, the product forms a hard film requiring mechanical removal or a suitable solvent/stripper.
• Dispose of used cleaning materials and containers responsibly, in line with local regulations.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, tightly sealed when not in use, away from direct heat and ignition sources (flash point 42°C). Keep out of reach of children.
