Preparation
Proper surface preparation is essential to ensure maximum adhesion and durability of Coo-Var Suregrip® Aqua. Follow the guidelines below based on the type of surface:
General Preparation (All Surfaces)
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, sound, and free from dust, oil, grease, loose material, and other contaminants.
- Remove existing coatings that are flaking or peeling.
- Always degrease with an appropriate degreaser before sanding or priming.
Concrete Surfaces
- Power-floated, granolithic, or smooth concrete must be roughened to provide a proper "key" for adhesion.
- Mechanical: Abrading or blasting.
- Chemical: Use Coo-Var Acid Etch (This also removes dirt and laitance from the surface.)
- New concrete should be fully cured before application.
- Priming: Apply a coat of Coo-Var Acrylic Floor Paint thinned 5% with water to seal and prime the surface before applying Suregrip® Aqua.
Metal Surfaces
- Clean and degrease thoroughly.
- Prime with: Coo-Var Zinc Phosphate Primer
Wood Surfaces
- Clean and degrease to remove all contaminants.
- Prime with: Coo-Var Aluminium Wood Primer or Coo-Var Acrylic Floor Paint (thinned 5% if used as a sealer)
Previously Painted Surfaces
- Clean, degrease, and lightly sand to ensure a good key.
- Remove all loose or flaking paint.
- Treat any bare areas as new substrate and prepare accordingly with the correct primer.
Following these preparation steps will ensure the best performance and longevity of Coo-Var Suregrip® Aqua.
Application
To achieve the best performance and finish from Coo-Var Suregrip® Aqua, follow these detailed application guidelines:
- Mix thoroughly before and during use to ensure an even distribution of texture and pigment.
- Ensure the surface has been properly prepared and primed with the appropriate Coo-Var primer for the substrate.
- Only apply when ambient and surface temperatures are above 7°C during both application and drying.
- Provide adequate ventilation, especially in confined or enclosed spaces.
- Use a short pile roller sleeve for even texture and optimal coverage. Brush application is suitable for edges and hard-to-reach areas.
- Apply a minimum of two coats of Suregrip® Aqua for a durable, anti-slip finish.
- Allow each coat to dry fully before applying the next.
- Avoid overworking the product once applied to maintain an even anti-slip texture.
- Ensure proper air flow during drying to promote proper curing.
Proper application is key to maximizing the safety and longevity of your surface.
