Preparation
Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from defective or poorly adhering material.
- Rub down previously painted surfaces thoroughly using wet flatting methods where possible, then wipe with a damp, lint-free cloth.
- Treat any knots with an appropriate knotting solution such as Ronseal's Knotting Pale.
- Prime new or bare surfaces with a suitable primer before applying Armstead Trade Satin.
- Take special precautions when preparing pre-1960s paint surfaces on wood and metal, as they may contain harmful lead.
Application
Always follow the manufacturers instructions found on the tin, it is recommended that a small test area is applied before painting the entire surface to ensure compatibility.
- Apply using a brush or roller only. For health and safety reasons, spray application is not recommended for solvent-based paints.
- Do not apply in temperatures below 5°C (as recommended by British Standard BS 6150).
- Stir the paint thoroughly before use.
- Apply 2 full coats of Armstead Trade Satin. Where a strong colour change is required, apply a coat of an appropriate coloured Armstead Trade Undercoat first.
Important Note: Solvent-based paints may discolour over time, particularly in areas with low or no natural/UV light. For long-lasting whiteness, consider using a water-based formulation such as Armstead Trade Durable Acrylic Eggshell.
